JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Maintenance / Grounds Worker
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Job Objective
Provides technical expertise and manual skill in the inspection, servicing, repair, and upkeep of buildings, grounds, equipment, furnishings, and landscaped areas.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Post-secondary training in a trade is desirable.
Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
Complies with drug‑free workplace rules and board policies.
Keeps current with technology and other workplace innovations that support job functions.
Ability to comply with environmental, health, and safety laws/regulations, building codes, and ADA accessibility guidelines.
Ability to comprehend and use blueprints/schematic diagrams and read Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Skill/experience in preventive maintenance and repair procedures.
Skill/experience in building systems (HVAC, fire suppression, security, communication, etc.).
Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on grounds keeping equipment.
Multi-school or closely related maintenance experience.
Holds or is qualified to obtain a pesticide application license and/or asbestos hazard certificate.
Valid driver’s license. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is desirable.
Essential Functions
Performs maintenance duties. Installs equipment. Repairs structures, windows, doors, equipment, and furnishings.
Performs grounds keeping duties (e.g., mows grass, fertilizes, seeds, trims trees/shrubs, etc.). Maintains a pesticide log.
Maintains playground/recreation areas, athletic fields, and equipment as directed.
Provides for the regular and orderly removal of trash.
Anticipates weather conditions and establishes work priorities.
Keeps the maintenance supervisor informed about ongoing activities and emerging issues.
Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
Promotes effective communications and uses problem‑solving techniques.
Helps develop short/long‑range program recommendations.
Shares knowledge about advances in operational procedures and equipment technology.
Anticipates and replenishes consumable supplies; receives and verifies deliveries; ensures safe storage.
Orders agronomic chemicals and stocks replacement parts for equipment.
Cleans, moves, and arranges furnishings, supplies, and equipment.
Performs repairs that do not disrupt normal schedules and coordinates major repairs.
Installs and/or repairs equipment ensuring compliance with codes and ADA standards.
Deals with unexpected situations and follows safety procedures.
Monitors, regulates, and inspects HVAC equipment and prepares systems for inspections.
Assists with snow removal operations.
Performs routine preventive maintenance activities.
Documents injuries requiring medical attention.
Prepares and submits reports, records, and inventories.
Picks up and delivers equipment, materials, and supplies.
Coordinates preparation and clean‑up for building events.
Assists other staff during urgent situations.
Monitors building and grounds conditions and reports unsafe conditions.
Prepares for fire, health, and safety inspections and monitors safety equipment.
Ensures buildings and job sites are secured; responds to emergencies.
Assists with district security and directs visitors.
Reports vandalism, equipment malfunctions, and concerns.
Takes precautions to ensure safety and reduce risk.
Maintains confidentiality and respects privacy.
Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.
Participates in meetings and professional development.
Maintains a professional appearance.
Performs other job‑related duties as directed.

Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
Duties may require working in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
Potential for exposure to air‑borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, odors, and wet floors.
Potential for exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
