General Maintenance Technician Non‑exempt
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge of grounds maintenance, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, contracting
Knowledge of the district, buildings, and utilities
Ability to pursue apprenticeship in maintenance
Ability to prioritize projects and respond to emergencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Ability to work with changing priorities, regulations, and deadlines
Ability to analyze situations accurately and recommend necessary action
Effective staff and public relations skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Effective planning and organization skills
Ability to perform essential job functions and task requirements
Responsibilities
To use various maintenance skills to maintain the grounds and facilities of the district.
Maintain grounds of the district, including playing fields
Assist with rodent control
Maintain health of trees and landscaping around the school and district sites
Be on call when emergencies arise
Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on mowers and grounds equipment
Strive to create a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm among fellow workers
Demonstrate willingness to assist other maintenance and custodial personnel in various trades when needed
Attend regular safety training
Train custodians for minor maintenance of mowers and other grounds equipment
Order fertilizer, seeds, and equipment as needed to maintain the grounds for the district and for custodians at each site
Assist with snow removal as needed
Represent the district professionally in all dealings with the maintenance team and building custodians
Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Facilities and Operations
Physical Requirements
Flexibility: bending or twisting at neck, trunk; reaching above head or forward; repetitive motion of hands, arms, fingers (85‑90 % of the time)
Use of arms & hands: manual dexterity, finger dexterity (90 % of the time)
Lifting 10‑25 pounds: frequent; above shoulders, waist, knees (90 % of the time)
Lifting 26‑50 pounds: frequent (up to 50 % of the time); above shoulders occasionally; above waist, knees (frequent)
Lifting 50‑75 pounds: occasional but essential
Pushing & pulling 75 pounds: occasional (up to 10 % of the time); 50‑75 pounds: occasional (up to 20 %); 25‑50 pounds: frequent (up to 60 %)
Carrying tasks: items 25‑50 pounds: daily requirement
Use of protective equipment: as necessary for eye, ear, hand, head, foot, face protection (including lenses, earplugs/muffs, gloves, hardhat, boots, face shield, etc.)
