Under general direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position is responsible for the daily operations, scheduling, administration, and program delivery at an assigned City Recreation & Parks Department facility. This position oversees facility use, rentals, recreation programs, customer service, community engagement, and coordination, training and supervising assigned volunteers, and part‑time and seasonal staff. Work involves planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation activities and events consistent with City of Alpharetta standards, policies, and service expectations.

This is a non‑exempt position.

Responsibilities

Manages the daily operations of an assigned City Recreation & Parks Department facility, ensuring a clean, safe, welcoming, and well‑functioning facility for all users. Serves as the primary point of contact for all community center operations, communications, partnerships, and facility use.

Oversees facility rentals, including scheduling, customer communication, walkthroughs, set‑ups, break‑downs, and ensuring compliance with City policies. Maintains a structured rental calendar balancing programs, partner use, and private rentals.

Recruits, supervises, directs, trains, and evaluates assigned staff, contracted vendors, and volunteers in performing services for the department. Maintains, reviews, and submits time sheets. Coordinates training programs and maintains training schedules. Reviews and recommends updates to staff manuals.

Works with a team to create, develop, and oversee programming and health and wellness programming to include instructional classes, social opportunities, special events, and camps.

Facilitates communication and collaboration between the department and community groups, youth associations, schools, civil organizations, etc.

Plans, coordinates, and schedules assigned activities and events; monitors enrollment and vendor contracts; recommends terms/conditions for instructor contract negotiation; prepares vendor pay requests/reports; develops informational and operational handbooks as needed for parents, volunteers, staff, vendors, and participants; conducts organizational meetings pertaining to activities.

Enters registration data in software program and monitors activities in registration system; conducts customer registration for various department programs; maintains records and files of assigned activities, including revenue, expenditures, evaluation forms, program summaries, and participation data; analyzes evaluation forms and participation trends and communicates these to supervisor; makes recommendations for program changes.

Coordinates building maintenance and custodial needs with internal departments and external vendors; identifies facility issues and submits timely work orders. Implements building security practices including opening/closing procedures, key control, and monitoring access.

Performs marketing of activities and events to the public including preparing flyers, posters, and mailings; sends emails; prepares/submits press releases to Marketing Coordinator for distribution to local media; submits information for department e‑newsletter and status updates for social media to supervisors; promotes community awareness, interest, and participation in activities and events to individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses.

Coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes work; monitors status of work in progress and evaluates completed work; leads subordinates to accomplish the department’s mission and goals by adhering to established policies, procedures and guidelines and setting a positive example. Ensures adherence to established safety/risk management procedures and ADA guidelines.

Takes photographs of activities and events for inclusion in department marketing materials; prepares information for department leisure guide.

Responds to and documents all incidents involving injury, behavioral problems, and/or any unusual events. Communicates to appropriate resources and supervisor. Maintains records and files on all participants in assigned programs and activities and all related records and documentation as necessary.

Assists Manager/Supervisor in recommending policies, developing program and facility maintenance standards, and ensuring adherence to established guidelines; monitors inventory of equipment and supplies; makes recommendations to supervisor for purchase of major activity/event equipment and supplies. Purchases basic equipment and supplies for activity/event.

Handles questions from the public regarding department activities and events; receives and addresses complaints/comments in person via email or telephone.

Works with other City departments and other agencies to facilitate various activities and events.

Assists supervisor in maintaining assigned accreditation files; assists in creation of forms, spreadsheets, and manuals pertaining to accreditation.

Maintains comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, standards, rules, and regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature.

Seeks funding through sponsorships, grants, and patrons; maintains records of donations and grants as required.

Represents the City at administrative meetings, conferences, professional organizations, etc.; interfaces with elected and appointed City officials as required.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Knowledge of appropriate safety precautions and procedures within the area of assignment.

Knowledge of safety principles and practices, including first aid and adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, record keeping, and business mathematics.

Knowledge of computer applications related to the work, including Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of techniques of dealing with individuals of various ages and various socio‑economic groups and for effectively representing the City in contacts with users and the community.

Abilities

Develop, coordinate, organize, and conduct assigned recreation programs, activities, events, or classes in assigned area.

Prepare publicity concerning new or ongoing recreation offerings.

Recruit, select, train, and evaluate part‑time, contractual, and volunteer staff.

Supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of part‑time, contractual, and volunteer staff.

Understand community needs in recreational areas and evaluate activities according to those needs.

Education Requirements

Combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job qualifies.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services, or a related field.

Two years previous experience in athletics, performing general administrative and program coordination work.

Must be willing to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays assigned.

Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.

Certification

Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.

Physical Demands
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and/or recreational facility and operate office equipment. Continuous sitting and upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity; light to moderate finger pressure to manipulate keyboard, equipment controls, and office equipment; pinch grasp to manipulate writing utensils. Frequent side‑to‑side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist; moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials; lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 yards. Occasional squatting, kneeling, and reaching above and at shoulder height; moderate grasping to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing 20-35 lbs. from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
