Job Description
Iowa Educational Services for the Blind & Visually Impaired (IESBVI) is Iowa’s provider of educational services for children and adolescents ages birth to 21 who are blind and visually impaired. IESBVI contracts with the state’s area education agencies and serves most of Iowa’s school districts through an itinerant model. Staff travel to schools, homes and other locations as needed. Our employees consult with local school district employees working with students who are blind or visually impaired.

Primary job duties:

Provides specialized, direct instruction to students with visual impairments in the areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).

Instructs students in reading and writing skills using magnification equipment, large print materials, and/or Braille, as needed.

Introduces students to adaptive technologies.

Conduct Functional Vision Assessments, Learning Media Assessments, and Expanded Core Curriculum screenings and assessments.

Attends IEP and IFSP meetings. Offers information on the correct interpretation of assessment information related to areas such as compensatory and functional academic skills, independent living skills, and career education.

Writes, amends, and progress monitors goals on IEPs and IFSPs. Assists IEP and IFSP teams in crafting individualized, measurable goals that align with the student's unique needs.

Participates in agency directed professional development activities.

Communicates with parents, AEA staff, district staff, and other external agencies as required.

Supports the Department of Education and IESBVI priorities through performing other duties as assigned.

Position details:
Part-time school-year appointment (may be increased to full-time). Service region covers multiple Iowa school districts. The ability to travel throughout a designated region within Iowa daily required. Will work with students across multiple Iowa school districts within the AEA. Criminal and other relevant background checks also required.

Employees are provided the use of a state vehicle, laptop, iPad, and cell phone for completion of work duties.

Salary:

BA/BS range: $52,166 - $74,214

MA/MS range: $61,256 - $87,692

Ed. Spec. range: $68,036 – $97,780

Qualifications

Visually Impaired (B-21) endorsement preferred.

Candidates possessing a special education endorsement may also qualify but must complete the visual impairment endorsement within three years. Financial assistance is available for necessary coursework.

Candidates must meet State of Iowa licensure requirements by the time of appointment. Information on Iowa licensing requirements may be found at the Board of Educational Examiners webpage: https://boee.iowa.gov/

Daily travel throughout a designated region in Iowa is required.

Experience using a computer and other office equipment required.
