Duties and Responsibilities
Perform firefighting activities, including controlling and extinguishing fires, operating hose lines, making forced entries, and ventilating structures; follow hazardous materials mitigation protocols.
Assist in rescue operations involving structural fires, aircraft, vehicle and machinery extrication, above and below grade environments, and confined spaces.
Use and maintain firefighting and medical equipment; inspect and provide routine maintenance on fire equipment, power tools, portable fire extinguishers, and apparatus.
Inspect, drive, and operate Fire Department vehicles and equipment safely.
Perform general maintenance work to upkeep fire facilities and grounds.
Provide Basic level Emergency Medical Services under the direction of the Wing Medical Director.
Participate in fire prevention and inspection programs, including fire drills and attending classes in firefighting, emergency medical service, hazardous materials, and related subjects.
Perform clerical work such as maintaining records, publications, and technical manual libraries; complete emergency medical run reports.
Operate the Fire Alarm Communications Center: answer phones, transfer calls, receive emergency communications, dispatch appropriate vehicles/equipment, maintain logs, and utilize ACES‑FD program and in‑house alerting system.
Maintain routine maintenance on fire hydrants, conduct flow testing, and perform inspections of buildings and other structures to identify fire hazards and design deficiencies.
Prepare materials and conduct training classes to provide instruction on fire prevention and firefighting.
Maintain the required amount of Continuing Education hours for EMT certification.
Conduct alarm room operations and dispatch, including daily log maintenance, communication recording, and automated alarm system monitoring.

Qualifications
No history of claustrophobia
Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form
Ability to communicate tactfully with coworkers and the public
Ability to work from heights
Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including self‑contained breathing apparatus, and engage in strenuous physical effort for prolonged periods
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and operate in Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH) atmospheres
Basic computer/data entry skills
Licenses and Certifications
Massachusetts Driver's License
Department of Defense Firefighter I and II
Airport Firefighter
Hazardous Material Awareness & Operations with MSC Product Control/PPE TR
Driver/Operator‑Pumper, Driver/Operator‑ARFF, Driver/Operator‑MWS (to be acquired within 24 months of hire)
National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 (post‑employment)
Minimum Entrance Requirements
Current and valid certification as a Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, or Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations with MSC Product Control/PPE TR issued by an accredited board.
Current and valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMTB) issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health or the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current CPR Basic Rescuer certification.
Completion of an NFPA 1582 occupational physical examination.
Current and valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License or equivalent from another state.
