Overview
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation and maintenance of equipment, light, medium and heavy machinery, and tools used in construction, maintenance, and repair activity. Performs loading, hauling, scraping and related operations. Performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Operates all equipment owned or rented by the county in order to maintain safe roadways and bike paths throughout Campbell County. Safely operates end dump. Mows grass and removes weeds. Works at the entry level in the class series.

Responsibilities
Participates in activities related to the use of construction equipment used in the construction of roads and bridges, including graveling, crack sealing, delineator post, reflector, fence, sign, cattle guard, culvert maintenance and installation, snow removal, crusher operations, bridge repair and construction, and landfill operations.
Operates heavy equipment which may include crusher, blade, compressor, dozer, scraper, backhoe, loader, baler, snowplow, and semi-truck.
Performs minor maintenance of trucks and equipment. Checks and services equipment with fuel, hydraulic fluids, oil, anti-freeze, and water. Checks tires, hoses, and belts.
Follows safe and effective methods of machine operation. Monitors work sites for potential hazards.
Ensures applicable standards and specifications are followed. Maintains cleanliness of work area and tools.
Inspects loads for determination of disposal techniques and to monitor for special and hazardous waste.
Weighs trucks, issues weight tickets, collects, and accounts for cash transactions.
Maintains a variety of records. Completes activity records and reports.
Performs related duties as required.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma (or GED equivalent)
Up to one (1) year of experience in equipment operation
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
Knowledge
English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment
Basic methods and techniques of construction, maintenance, and repair
Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned
Road construction and/or maintenance of landfill operations
Principles of record keeping and reporting
Safe work practices
Skill
Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios

Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files

Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and under unfavorable weather conditions
Maintain hand tools and assist in the routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles
Learn to operate a variety of tandem axle vehicles and other equipment used in construction in a safe and effective manner
Learn to use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner
Maintain accurate records and complete activity reports
Physical Demands
The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
