Job Summary
Francis W. Parker School is a renowned JK-12th grade independent day school. Founded in 1901 on the tenets of progressive education, the school currently enrolls 940 students and employs 200 dedicated faculty and staff members who, in addition to assistant teachers, substitute teachers and coaches, work together to ensure that the School lives up to its Mission to “educate students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse, democratic society and global community.”
We are currently seeking a dynamic, innovative Physical Education teacher to join our faculty for the 2026-2027 school year. Responsibilities include teaching physical education classes for students in grades JK-12, serving as an advisor, and facilitating our Civic Lab program. There are also opportunities to serve as a coach or club sponsor.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Physical Education (K-12 Certification)
A minimum of three (3) years of PE teaching experience
Deep understanding of the areas of physical education and fitness
Affinity and enthusiasm for working with students across grade levels, as young as 4 years of age through 18 years of age
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of children with physical differences, learning challenges, and a variety of skill levels, including all in activities with dignity and respect
Experience working at a progressive school or in a progressive environment; a belief in the key tenets of progressive education, namely that learning and growth are not competitive endeavors; that great teaching begins with positive, trusting relationships between students and teachers; and that engaging students fully in interesting, exciting, and challenging processes is what good teaching looks like
Excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and emotional maturity
Experience in and a commitment to developing one’s own cultural competency and seeking, continually, greater levels of diversity, equity, and inclusion in practices and in curricula
Willingness to learn and improve professionally
Strong collaboration skills and aptitude for working with colleagues to team teach and facilitate multi‑grade PE events
Compensation
Salary Range: Approximately $70,022 - $133,748.
Faculty positions are paid on a step-level salary scale, commensurate with background and years of prior teaching experience. Francis W.
