Job Description
Discovery Charter School is a cutting‑edge charter middle and high school just north of Durham, NC, seeking qualified middle and high school teachers. Using a student‑driven STEAM curriculum, Discovery aims to grow student creativity, curiosity, and collaboration during the formative years. The school features a high‑tech learning environment including 1:1 student computers, 3D printers, and a virtual reality lab, as well as standing desks and soft seating. Discovery also offers a Passion Learning Time that allows students dedicated, structured time each day to pursue their individual passions.
As a CTE teacher, you will help students develop knowledge, think critically, analyze grade‑level text, and provide the tools students need to succeed throughout their school career and beyond. You will implement North Carolina grade‑level standards, adapt and execute a rigorous, standards‑aligned curriculum with academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments. You will use data to inform instruction, provide students with meaningful feedback on performance, and create individualized, standards‑aligned curriculum plans.
Responsibilities
Implement North Carolina grade‑level standards across courses.
Adapt and deliver a rigorous, standards‑aligned curriculum using engaging lessons, unit plans, rubrics, and assessments.
Use assessment data to inform instruction and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
Collaborate with your teaching team and other school departments to meet all student needs.
Facilitate advisory groups and the Passion Learning Time period.
Monitor lunch periods and assist with dismissal duties as required.
Qualifications
NC teaching license or actively pursuing licensure.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Team‑player who values collaboration and continuous improvement.
Tech‑savvy or willing to learn new technologies such as virtual reality, 3D printing, e‑readers, and remote teaching platforms.
Lifelong learner committed to professional growth.
Passionate about working with high‑school students.
Preferred: minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (not required).
