Summary
National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Suwanee, GA market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5‑5000 kW. Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed‑transition types. Perform preventative maintenance service (oil and filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components as necessary, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and start‑up/commission new generators and generator systems.
Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair, including ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc.
Perform load‑bank testing on generators to ensure units operate within proper conditions and meet applicable code requirements.
Assist other technicians with large multi‑person jobs or complex troubleshooting.
Education and Experience
HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred.
Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator/UPS field service technician preferred.
Skills and Other Qualifications
Excellent communication skills—capable of giving verbal and written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed.
Ability to account for time spent on jobs and travel.
Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license. Required to drive long distances to job sites; overnight stays in hotels (1‑3 nights per week) may be required. Company covers hotel costs and provides a meal allowance per guidelines.
Good computer skills and comfort with Microsoft software (Internet Explorer, Word, Excel) and Adobe PDF.
Work from home while ensuring proper vehicle maintenance, required parts inventory, and security of Company property (cell phone, laptop, specialty tools, etc.).
Manage difficult or emotional customer situations; respond promptly to customer needs; solicit feedback to improve service; meet commitments.
Good problem‑solving during emergencies or with limited resources.
Training provided; may attend courses in Milwaukee, WI and elsewhere as needed.
Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; seek ways to improve quality; apply feedback; monitor own work for safety and quality.
Work Conditions
Work may occur in various weather conditions (heat, rain, snow, high humidity, etc.).
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands
Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 75 lb.
Ascending/descending ladders, scaffolding, stairs, ramps.
Seizing, holding, grasping, turning with hands.
Keyboard use for data entry.
Push/pull tasks may involve hands/arms, feet/legs.
Move on hands and knees or feet to enter restricted spaces.
Use feet/legs to operate machine controls (pedals, buttons, levers, cranks).
Clarity of vision required (small objects, reading small print, computer use).
Sitting for long periods may be required.
Occasional confinement in tight spaces on hands and feet.
Compensation
Competitive pay based on experience and certifications. Overtime at 1.5 × base; performance‑based pay reflects productivity.
