ISP Offshore Helper
Primary Purpose: Lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and maintain piping and pipe systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems, based on knowledge of system operation and study of building plans or working drawings.

Typical Duties:

Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications. Inspect worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness.

Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.

Cut pipe, using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. Thread pipe, using threading machine, end pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.

Assemble and install variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic. Join piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.

Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools. Install and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping.

Test piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.

Physical Requirements:

Standing and walking throughout the shift.

Climbing, stooping, bending, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Must be able to wear a full-face respirator or blast hood for extended periods.

May be required to work in extremely tight spaces or on elevated/suspended platforms.

Must be willing to work in remote locations for extended periods.

Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds often and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

Needs Firewatch and confined space training.

This is an offshore position; water safety training is required.
