Job Title: Elementary Teacher - 4th Grade
General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, employs classroom management techniques that result in an atmosphere for teaching/learning in which students know what they are expected to do. Gives instruction to the students in elementary schools in the areas assigned by the principal. Reports to the principal.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Has a prepared lesson plan that is sufficient for instructing the lesson.

Exercises proper care of materials and equipment.

Communicates needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.

Arrives for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.

Communicates appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.

Accepts assistance, advice, and guidance from people responsible for supervising his/her performance and makes a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.

Shares ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.

Alerts to the district’s, school’s, and his/her own goals and prioritizes professional development accordingly.

Keeps information confidential unless disclosure serves a professional purpose or is required by law.

Respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals and communicates directly in any situation.

Complies with state and local restrictions regarding controlled substances, tobacco products, alcohol, and dress.

Does not verbally or physically harass students.

Does not use profanity in the presence of students.

Does not have any sexual contact with a student.

Standards

Classroom Management

The teacher begins the class promptly.

The teacher communicates expected behaviors to students or ensures they are understood.

Students exhibit classroom behaviors that allow maximum on‑task behavior from all participants.

Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention.

Materials

The teacher chooses appropriate materials and equipment for teaching a lesson.

The teacher handles materials and equipment efficiently in the classroom setting.

Planning for Instruction

The teacher utilizes a clinical approach to teaching (adequate diagnosis and evidence‑based learning).

Uses an appropriate Lesson Plan Format.

Ensures the behavioral objective for the lesson is appropriate for the learners.

Teaching the Lesson

Recognizes student differences in needs, abilities, and interests, then imparts instruction to meet them.

Tells the student exactly what is to be learned, its purpose, and relates it to prior learning.

Provides practice experiences with an appropriate quantity and variety to assure mastery.

Monitors guided practice and offers immediate feedback.

Demonstrates knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson.

Maintains a classroom climate conducive to learning.

Encourages, praises, and acknowledges student effort appropriately.

Ensures each student shows some measure of success.

Schedules practice to guarantee retention of learning.

Encourages learners to verbalize critical attributes before leaving the lesson.

Collects data to evaluate performance and assists in planning future lessons.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above. Valid South Carolina teacher’s certificate in the assigned teaching area. Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered if approved by the Board.

Physical Requirements: Sedentary work involving walking or standing occasionally and routine keyboard operations. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force.

Diagnoses learning disabilities regularly with district specialists as needed.

Protects students, equipment, and facilities with necessary precautions.

Maintains accurate records per law, policy, and regulations.

Performs all other duties assigned.

Cooperates fully with optional extra assignments before, during, and after school.

Records student attendance accurately.

Follows curriculum standards, local course of study, and state rules.

Maintains positive relationships with home and community.

Keeps parents informed and holds conferences as necessary.

Reports suspicions of abuse or neglect to appropriate authorities and the principal.

Abides by the SC Teacher Code of Ethics.

Participates in required staff development sessions.

Uses district resources strategically.

Reports accidents or injuries promptly.

Supervises students properly.

Submits class and cumulative records to principal as requested.

Maintains a clean, orderly, safe classroom.

Administers assessments, records scores, interprets test results, and analyzes data to improve instruction.

Plans, prepares, implements, and assesses lessons that meet standards and individual needs.

Maintains classroom and school order to support learning.
