Senior Database Administrator (DBA)
Duration: 6–12 months | Location: Remote
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support a large-scale, enterprise data center migration initiative. This role will focus on designing and executing the migration of SQL Server environments from legacy clustering solutions to modern high-availability architectures.
This is a hands‑on, senior‑level role requiring deep expertise in SQL Server, Always On Availability Groups, and database migration strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the architecture, planning, and execution of database migrations from FCI (Failover Cluster Instances) to Always On Availability Groups
Design and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions for large-scale SQL Server environments
Develop detailed migration runbooks, execution plans, and rollback strategies
Build and maintain test environments to validate migration approaches prior to production deployment
Implement and manage SQL Server replication (Publisher / Distributor / Subscriber models)
Create automation scripts (PowerShell & SQL) to streamline migration, recovery, and operational processes
Troubleshoot complex issues during migration and provide rapid, independent resolution
Collaborate with infrastructure and engineering teams to ensure seamless deployment and performance optimization
Required Technical Skills
Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups, including design, setup, and troubleshooting
Proven experience working with large, enterprise‑scale SQL Server databases
Deep knowledge of SQL Server replication (transactional replication preferred)
Hands‑on experience with database migration strategies including:
FCI to Always On migrations
Log shipping and high availability configurations
Strong scripting experience with:
PowerShell
SQL scripting for automation
Experience working in virtualized environments (VMware preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience upgrading to SQL Server 2022 environments
Familiarity with Windows Server environments supporting SQL Server workloads
Prior experience working on large‑scale, time‑sensitive migration projects

Strong problem‑solving ability with minimal reliance on external/vendor support
