Job Title: Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic - Richmond
Major Role and Purpose
The primary responsibilities of this position are to diagnose and repair heavy highway, trucks, grading, and asphalt equipment and maintenance issues.
Description of Duties
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
Perform repairs and overhaul of various highway, grading and asphalt equipment, pumps, air compressors, transmissions, controls, and accessories, etc.
Test equipment following repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with operating specifications.
Perform repairs and preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase the service life of the equipment.
Prepare required documentation including work orders and parts lists in an accurate and timely manner.
Notify the Shop Foreman when problems arise.
Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
Education
High School Diploma / GED.
Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy equipment preferred.
Skills Required
Effective communication and organization skills.
Diagnose and repair heavy grading and paving equipment.
Experienced with diesel engines, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.
Able to perform repairs in accordance with OSHA safety regulations.
Virginia State Inspection license desirable but not required.
Must have a valid Driver's License in good standing.
Mechanical aptitude.
Physical Demands
Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
Overtime work is required.
Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
