Waubonsee Community College invites applications for a part-time instructor position for Developmental English (Integrated Reading and Writing) courses.
Adjunct Faculty are tasked with providing high-quality instruction and assessing student learning through both formative and summative methods. This role requires a professional with exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to effectively utilize instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Reporting to the Dean, Adjunct Faculty will prepare course syllabi and design lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments tailored to different learning styles, ensuring that students meet course objectives and outcomes. They will incorporate learner-centered principles and motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational experience. Adjunct Faculty are also responsible for evaluating student performance and maintaining timely and accurate records, including attendance verifications, academic progress, and final course grades.
Successful Adjunct Faculty adopt a holistic approach to student success, bringing passion and enthusiasm to the classroom. They collaborate effectively with students and colleagues, and work constructively with individuals from diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities. They demonstrate sensitivity to and the ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Applicants must have experiences and availability (in-person) teaching the following courses:
ENG 085 Basic Integrated Reading and Writing & ENG 095 Integrated Reading and Writing (Bridge Program) from 6/15-8/6-2026 at the Sugar Grove Campus from 8:30-11:15 a.m. MTWTH
ENG 085 Basic Integrated Reading from 5/26-8/7/2026 at the DWNTN Aurora Campus at 11:00-2:15 TTH
Minimum Experience
Bachelors Degree in English, English Education or Reading from an accredited college REQUIRED.
Competency in technologies commonly used in college level instruction (canvas & zoom).
Experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in English, English Education or Reading from an accredited college.
Experience teaching Developmental English at a community college or university.
Experience with ELL students a plus.
Teaching traditionally underserved populations.
Incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process.
Teaching in multiple instructional modalities.
Utilizing Learning Management Systems.
