Lead Teacher: 5th & 6th Grade
VAIS, Annandale, VA, United States
August Start Date
As the 5th and 6th grade teacher, you hold a pivotal role in the Pinecrest journey. You will lead a combined-grade classroom (maximum 15 students), serving as the architect of their transition. This is a unique opportunity to shepherd our oldest students through their final years at Pinecrest, ensuring they graduate not only with academic excellence but with the independence and social-emotional maturity required for middle school success.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Innovation: Design and deliver differentiated, brain-based, project-based instruction that challenges and inspires.
The Transition Leader: Act as the primary guide for students as they navigate the shift from elementary learners to confident middle schoolers.
Homeroom Stewardship: Manage all aspects of the homeroom experience, fostering a culture of high standards and mutual respect.
Collaborative Partnership: Work closely with parents and administration to provide a "launchpad" experience for every 5th and 6th-grade graduate.
Community Integration: Embrace and contribute to our small-school ecosystem, participating in school-wide events and traditions.
Candidate Profile
You have a passion for project-based learning and aren't afraid to try innovative approaches to curriculum.
You understand that 10-to-12-year-olds need a balance of high expectations and empathetic support.
You possess excellent interpersonal skills and can articulate student progress clearly to invested parents.
Bachelor’s degree in Education (or related field) required; experience with multi-grade classrooms or upper-elementary transitions is a significant plus.
A love of teaching and learning.
