Job Description
Primary Purpose:
In collaboration with the campus principal, the Academic Dean serves as a key instructional leader on the campus leadership team, responsible for driving student achievement through strong systems in data, assessment, and academic planning. In addition to supporting enrollment, counseling systems, scheduling, testing, and accountability, the Academic Dean works to ensure instructional alignment, monitor student progress, and support teachers and counselors in delivering high-quality, student-centered learning experiences.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas Principal or Administrator Certification required
Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience
Experience in instructional leadership, coaching, or data-driven instruction
Strong record of improving student academic outcomes
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Deep understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
Strong data analysis and instructional planning skills
Ability to coach and support teachers in improving instructional practices
Excellent organizational and systems management skills
Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Commitment to high expectations and student success for all learners
Experience working directly with Special Populations, a plus
Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of classroom experience
Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Leadership:
Support the Principal in driving campus-wide academic goals and student achievement outcomes
Lead the use of data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment
Collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders to analyze student work, assessments, and performance trends
Support the implementation of rigorous, standards-aligned instruction across content areas
Monitor student progress and ensure timely interventions for students in need
Master Scheduling & Academic Planning:
Lead and support the development of the master schedule to maximize instructional time and student success
Ensure student placement aligns with academic needs, interventions, and program requirements
Oversee student rosters to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework and support services
Collaborate with Special Populations and Counseling to ensure compliance and appropriate student services
Data & Academic Performance:
Analyze student performance data to drive instructional decisions
Lead data meetings and support teachers in using data to inform instruction
Monitor progress toward campus academic goals, including graduation and college readiness metrics
Oversee intervention systems for struggling students
Ensure implementation of academic support programs and credit recovery systems
Counseling & Student Support Systems:
Partner with school counselors to align academic planning with student needs and graduation pathways
Support systems that prioritize guidance, counseling, and student academic success
Assist in monitoring student progress toward graduation and college/career readiness indicators
Enrollment & Student Systems:
Support enrollment processes to ensure accurate placement and strong student onboarding
Monitor enrollment trends and their impact on class size, staffing, and instruction
Campus Leadership & Systems:
Serve as an active member of the campus leadership team in all aspects of school operations and management
Lead and manage key academic systems, processes, and routines
Support campus-wide initiatives that drive instructional improvement
Troubleshoot and respond to issues related to data, scheduling, and student performance
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise and evaluate instructional staff as assigned.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Occasional district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; ability to access entire campus multiple times daily. Requires long hours of standing and walking. Work week may also include weekends.

This position requires strong instructional leadership and the ability to drive measurable improvements in student achievement. The Dean of Academics plays a key role in ensuring all students have access to high-quality instruction and are prepared for postsecondary success.
