Outside Sales Representative – Truss & Building Components

Sioux Falls, SD Territory
Compensation:
$60,000 – $80,000 Base + Commission

Overview
An established, independently operated manufacturer of structural building components is seeking an Outside Sales Representative to grow and maintain relationships with builders, contractors, and construction professionals throughout the South Dakota, northern Nebraska, northern Iowa markets.
This role is ideal for someone who understands construction, enjoys being in the field, and can own client relationships from initial contact through project completion.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage relationships with:
Residential builders
Agricultural contractors
Light commercial customers
Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the territory
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers from quote through delivery
Collaborate with internal design team to ensure accurate and timely project execution
Review plans with clients and provide basic technical guidance on truss applications
Track project pipelines, bids, and follow-ups to close business consistently
What They’re Looking For
Experience in building materials sales, construction sales, or truss/components industry
Strong relationship-building and account management skills
Ability to read blueprints or construction drawings (preferred but not required)
Self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently in the field
Strong communication and follow-up discipline
Ideal Background
Truss or component sales
Lumberyard / building supply outside sales
EWP or framing package sales
Construction project management transitioning into sales
Estimator or coordinator with strong customer‑facing experience
Territory
Primary focus: South Dakota, Northern Nebraska, Northern Iowa
Some regional travel expected
