Description
Moore & Van Allen PLLC, a dynamic and fast-growing full-service law firm of more than 400 attorneys and professionals, is seeking an experienced Manager of Research & Knowledge Management to join its Charlotte, NC office. This role is responsible for managing the library’s collection, systems, staff, services, and physical space, while serving as a trusted research and knowledge partner to attorneys and staff across the firm. This is a hands‑on, interactive position requiring regular, in‑person presence and close collaboration with attorneys, leadership, vendors, and external library partners.
What You’ll Do:
Library Collection & Vendor Management
Develop, evaluate, and manage print and electronic legal resources
Research, recommend, and negotiate contracts for new legal research products and databases
Analyze usage data to optimize resources and proactively manage costs
Maintain strong relationships with legal publishers and vendors
Research Services & Knowledge Management
Administer online research and reference services, including reimbursement programs
Provide research support to attorneys and staff as needed
Lead training and onboarding on legal research tools and library resources
Remain current on emerging trends in legal research, library science, and knowledge management
Leadership & Operations
Train, supervise, and evaluate library team members
Prepare and manage the library budget, including expense analysis for print and electronic resources
Maintain an up‑to‑date automated catalog and oversee circulation
Ensure attorneys and staff receive ongoing instruction in library resources
Maintain deep understanding of library and knowledge management technologies
Make recommendations to improve systems, tools, and workflows
Support firm leadership with library‑related space planning initiatives
Coordinate interlibrary loan services with external firms, law schools, and professional organizations
Work closely with attorneys, staff, and firm leadership to align library services with business needs
What We’re Looking For:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent required
5+ years of experience in a law library or legal research environment required
Strong knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research, and law library operations
Demonstrated supervisory and people management experience required
Physical Requirements:
Light/Medium Exert force 10-20 lbs., frequently; Ability to retrieve and replace objects from shelves of up to eight feet high.
Prolonged standing, frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects are essential to the role.
Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
Occasionally required to bend and stoop, grasping, twisting, reaching, climbing, balancing, crawling, and kneeling.
The work requires activities occasionally involving the use of portable equipment such as carts, dollies and/or hand trucks.
