
Respiratory Therapist LTC

This employee administers respiratory therapy care to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.
Job Responsibilities
Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment
Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders
Set up and operate devices including mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and/or compressors
Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature
Monitor patient response to therapy via vital sign and blood chemistry changes
Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimal results
Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction
Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently
Order repairs when needed
Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees
Perform tracheostomy tube changes
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
Previous related work experience
Physical Demands
The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
