Theme Lighting Designer Senior – Project Hire
Design, document, and facilitate the production of specialty Theme Lighting fixtures for Disney theme parks, resorts, attractions, restaurants, shops, and area development. You will research ready‑made items or craft custom pieces to meet project requirements, develop and manage budgets and schedules, lead junior designers, and provide fabrication drawings.
What You Will Do
Work with project teams to develop fixture designs that support narrative and illumination needs.
Identify, research, and specify specialty items to meet creative intent.
Lead a team of specialty designers to detail and achieve design goals within code and maintenance accessibility requirements.
Consult with the Department Manager for staff allocation.
Collaborate with Theme Lighting Production to adapt designs for creative and budget constraints.
Track scope, provide budgetary estimates, and support project leadership.
Work within the project schedule and provide phased inputs for design development and facility integration.
Provide fabrication design support for production.
Travel to project sites to supervise and survey vendor production, and direct field installation.
Assign and manage design and drawing work to team members.
Share responsibility for quality, timeliness, and efficiency of design documentation.
Assist junior designers in understanding fabrication methods, materials, code requirements, and more.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 6 years of experience designing and producing specialty items.
At least 2 years of leading a team of designers and creating contract documents.
Excellent team participation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to present research and designs to Creative Directors.
Capability to draw by hand.
Experience with specialty item or fixture design.
Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or other 3D modeling programs, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge and direct use of WDI drafting, design, project tracking systems, and business communications.
Understanding of building or fabricating specialty items, materials, fabrication techniques, maintenance access, and regional code compliance.
Read and understand architectural drawings and interfaces.
Collaborate with Project Show Managers and Studio Manager to report design progress.
Strong familiarity with reading and using architectural documents.
Participate and oversee installation on site with Project Teams as needed.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program preferred.
Benefits and Compensation
Benefits include health and savings plans, educational opportunities, and special perks. Compensation ranges are $100,100–$134,200 per year in Lake Buena Vista, FL; and $105,100–$140,900 per year in Glendale, CA, with adjustments for equity, location, skills, and experience. Bonuses and long‑term incentives may also be offered.
