Responsibilities
Performs routine and complex studies, in addition to assisting with a variety of imaging procedures. Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possible in relation to patient body habitus. Adapts procedure to each patient’s medical situation obtaining all available necessary information for proper interpretation. Enters testing conditions, observations, test results, and patient demographic information into patient records. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians and notifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Performs scheduling, insurance verification, authorization, coding, billing, and reimbursement activities. Sets up and adjusts imaging equipment while manually maneuvering transducers to perform exams. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other departmental regions. Maintains supply inventory and restocks to maintain proper operating levels. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be able to perform a full range of diagnostic echocardiogram and/or vascular ultrasound procedures.
Must be able to operate all ultrasound systems in the assigned department and utilize the measurement package for measuring and calculating to determine anatomy, function, and status according to standard of care.
Must be able to recognize significant anatomical structures, artifacts, pathology.
Ability to effectively communicate and explain procedures to patients in a clear and concise manner.
Basic EKG knowledge.
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly department, including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area, and other departmental regions.
Up‑to‑date knowledge to appropriately interpret image data and consequently determine which images to save and which to discard.
Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry.
Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English.
BLS upon hire (RQI within 30 days of hire) and quarterly credentialing utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement program (RQI).
Must be able to perform basic mathematical skills.
Must be able to function independently with little or no supervision.
Proficiency in pediatric echocardiography preferred.
Proficiency in transesophageal echocardiography preferred.
Knowledge of principles and practices of echocardiography.
Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to address age‑appropriate considerations relating to the communication and safety needs of the patient populations served within the department.
2 years cardiac ultrasound experience preferred.
