Job Summary

Perform moderately skilled work aiding physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists with departmental operating procedures and patient treatment.
Responsibilities

Level I
Prepare patient and treatment area for care; assist therapist with patient care under supervision.
Utilize correct sterile technique for wound care and dressing changes.
Transport patients safely to designated locations, adhering to safety protocols and daily schedule.
Assist with patient transfers, dressing, toileting, and equipment maintenance and cleaning.
Manage linen and supply inventory; monitor inventory levels and place orders.
Document patient responses, complete activity and safety logs, and assist with front-office coverage.
Communicate respectfully with patients and staff; respond promptly to assistance requests.
Assist with volunteer orientation and training; participate in quality improvement activities.
Level II
All Level I duties plus independent performance of some treatment techniques under supervision.
Manage custom supply orders, track delivery, and process returns.
Perform routine equipment checks and notify of maintenance needs.
Document patient responses in the medical record; ensure co-signature by supervising therapist.
Provide on-site supervision to Level I aides and organize workload fairly.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic computer skills and ability to learn DUHS systems.
Understanding of therapy principles, basic skeletal biomechanics, functional anatomy, and physiology.
Application of physical therapy principles in patient rehabilitation; correct body mechanics and safety.
Ability to follow and communicate oral and written instructions accurately.
Professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with patients, staff, and the public.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and employees.
Minimum Qualifications

Education
Level I: Graduation from high school or GED; or equivalence through education and experience.
Level II: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or related field; or relevant certification (Athletic Trainer, Massage Therapist), or at least three years of rehabilitative services experience.
Experience
Level I: Successful completion of on-the-job training and competency; one year of rehabilitative services experience preferred.
Level II: Same educational or experiential requirements as Level I plus at least three years of relevant experience.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification required within the first three months of employment.
