**Job Summary**

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Program Instructor is responsible for developing, planning, implementing, leading and instructing engaging specialized recreation classes, skills and techniques to children, youth or adults in Parks and Recreation Department programs.

**Pay**

The hourly rate for the position is $15.00 - $25.00 DOQ

**Work Schedule**

Seasonal, varies by season and program schedule (weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends).

**Duties and Responsibilities - Essential Functions**1. Plan, organize, implement, and lead recreational programs, lessons, activities, special events, cultural arts, or workshops for area residents including but not limited to, early childhood, youth, teen, and adult programming to meet the program or class objectives.2. Selects and prepares required materials and equipment for each class.3. Set up and take down program equipment and materials: maintain cleanliness and organization of facilities.4. Provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants.5. Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and evaluation records as required.6. Maintains a high level of instruction for all participants.7. Demonstrates appropriate techniques and skills to participants in the program or activity being taught.8. Monitor participant behavior and enforce program rules and safety guidelines.9. Works directly with the participants and assists them in completing the day's project or activity.10. Communicates effectively with participants, parent/guardians, and staff.11. Manages functions and activities which are held in the buildings and/or surrounding park land.12. Establishes good working relationships with patrons, the community and general public.13. Lifts and moves tables, chairs, and facility recreational equipment as needed for the daily operation of the facilities.14. Attends work as scheduled by the Recreation Supervisor depending on program schedules, special event times, etc.15. Report program needs, issues, and recommendations to the Recreation Supervisor.16. Performs the job safely and in compliance with Village policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee handbook.17. Attend required trainings, meetings, and orientations.18. Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.1. Thorough knowledge of the program or activity being taught.2. Ability to engage participants with diverse learning styles and abilities.3. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.4. Enthusiasm for working with the public and promoting community recreation.5. Thorough knowledge of program development.6. Good knowledge of the principles and practices of general recreation programming.7. Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions:

1. Work hours designated by the Recreation Supervisor.

2. Employee is expected to be on duty whenever the need exists.

3. Attend special events as needed.8. Ability to cooperate with and interpret Department philosophies in relation to governmental, public and private groups and agencies and to the general public.9. Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community groups and other units of local government.10. Dependable, flexible, and organized with the ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Recreation Supervisor.11. Ability to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with both internal and external customers.12. Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.13. Ability to communicate effectively with fellow staff and the public both orally and in writing.14. Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal supervision or direction.15. Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.16. Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing and to read and understand materials printed in English.17. Capacity to utilize computer skills, including demonstrated proficiencies in work processing and basic spreadsheet and database applications.18. Capacity to proactively troubleshoot, problem solve and make sound judgements with respect to confidentiality.19. CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within six (6) months of employment, instructor level preferred.1. Standing and sitting for sustained periods of time while completing work.2. Some bending, kneeling, and reaching for items off floor and high shelves.3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, equipment, materials, boxes, and other supplies.4. Exposure to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work area5. Exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures.6. Protective clothing and equipment is required as it pertains to the particular job duty:

1. Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

2. Non-Latex gloves

3. Sunscreen

4. Sunglasses and hat7. Ability to work extra hours to accomplish and complete high volume of work.8. Occasional exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions while supervising programs or attending job related activities at locations away from municipal facilities.
