Position Overview
The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking a full-time research technician for the 2026 field season. The Davey Tree Expert Company is the North American leader in residential tree care, utility right-of-way management, commercial landscape services, and urban forestry / natural resource consulting with operations throughout the US and Canada. The Davey Institute is responsible for research and development, environmental programs, technical support, and education and training for all of Davey’s North American operations.

Job Duties

Implementation and data collection of research projects

Plot maintenance - including weeding, mulching, mowing, string trimming, etc.

Plant care in field, nursery and greenhouse settings

Tree planting, pruning, watering, pest control, etc.

Mixing and applying pesticides and fertilizers

Qualifications
Required:

A.S., B.S. or equivalent in horticulture, plant pathology, entomology or related field.

Experience in horticulture, plant and landscape maintenance, or greenhouse production

Ability/willingness to use zero turn mower, string trimmers, irrigation systems and power tools.

Familiarity with study design

Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

Reliable means to commute to work in Kent, Ohio.

Pesticide applicators license or willingness to obtain one

Experience with performing statistical analysis using R, SAS, or other analytical programs

Excellent written and oral communication skills
