Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Combo Welder with strong mechanical aptitude to perform high‑quality MIG and TIG welding and fabrication on heavy carbon steel components and pipe. You will work in a hands‑on industrial shop environment, producing structurally sound welds on thick plate and pipe while interpreting fabrication drawings and maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Perform MIG welding on carbon steel components, including structural welding with a 25/75 Argon and CO2 gas mixture on material up to 2 inches thick.
Perform TIG welding on carbon steel, pipe, and sheet metal, ensuring proper penetration, strength, and appearance.
Weld pipe up to 3/8 inch wall thickness using TIG root passes and MIG fill and cap techniques.
Set up and adjust welding equipment, including machines, gas flow, and filler materials, based on material type and job requirements.
Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to determine weld locations, sizes, and procedures.
Prepare joints properly, including beveling, fitting, tacking, and performing visual checks before welding.
Apply sound welding techniques to ensure welds meet structural, dimensional, and cosmetic standards.
Perform minor mechanical work such as aligning components, troubleshooting fitment issues, and assisting with assembly as needed.
Use hand tools, grinders, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment to prepare, weld, and finish parts to specification.
Inspect finished welds visually and with measuring tools to verify compliance with drawings, weld symbols, and quality requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
Follow all safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with company policies at all times.
Essential Skills
Proven experience as a Combination Welder with proficiency in both MIG and TIG processes.
Ability to perform structural MIG welding on carbon steel up to 2 inches thick with proper penetration and structural integrity.
Demonstrated pipe welding experience using TIG root and MIG cap techniques on pipe up to 3/8 inch wall thickness.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how welded components fit and function in assemblies.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, shop prints, and weld symbols accurately.
Knowledge of proper welding procedures, joint design, and heat control for carbon steel.
Experience working with carbon steel materials; exposure to other alloys is a plus.
Proficiency using hand tools, grinders, measuring tools, and fabrication equipment in a shop environment.
Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to high‑quality workmanship.
Ability to work on your feet for most of the day, including walking and standing for extended periods.
Comfort working in an industrial shop environment that can be dirty and may include areas without air conditioning.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Welding certifications such as AWS or equivalent are preferred.
Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or fabrication shop environments.
Familiarity with quality control standards, inspection processes, and weld testing requirements.
Ability to pass weld tests on both plate and pipe.
Experience fitting and welding 3/8 inch pipe using TIG root and MIG cap.
Comfort working overtime, including frequent Saturday shifts when available.

Work Environment
This position is based in an industrial fabrication shop environment. The standard schedule runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the option to move to a 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. shift if desired. There is frequent opportunity for overtime, especially on Saturdays. The role is physically active, with approximately 90% of the day spent walking or standing. Some areas of the shop are not air‑conditioned, and the workspace can be dirty at times, so you should be comfortable working in a hands‑on, gritty industrial setting and getting your hands dirty. You will work with welding machines, fabrication tools, grinders, and measuring equipment while following safety procedures and using appropriate PPE. The dress code includes steel‑toed shoes and durable work pants or jeans, along with a plain work shirt suitable for a welding and fabrication environment.
