Job Description
General Summary:

To provide services to students with behavior and mental health needs, and to supervise and support school‑based programs that offer appropriate behavioral strategies for students experiencing behavioral challenges.

Essential Functions:

Participate in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process for behavioral interventions, providing resources and support.

Coordinate referrals and transitions for the placement process of incoming students.

Support behavioral data analysis to recommend appropriate Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP).

Attend team‑based problem‑solving processes and meetings, and meet one‑on‑one with teachers as needed.

Observe students in the classroom to better understand their needs.

Provide coaching, skills training, and other support to teachers and staff working with students with behavioral concerns.

Serve as a liaison between the school, parents, community agencies, and medical practitioners.

Act as a member of the Crisis Team, collaborating to establish crisis intervention strategies and procedures for identified students.

Teach social/coping skills in the classroom to support positive classroom behaviors.

Assess the need for FBAs and BIPs, including developing effective data collection systems.

Maintain confidentiality and comply with federal, state, and district regulations and policies.

Perform risk assessments using the Columbia screener and alert DCS to any student harm situations.

Conduct social skills groups and lunch groups, and support one‑on‑one with students when needed.

Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Special Services.

Knowledge and Ability

Understanding of behavior management techniques and methods.

Extensive knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

Demonstrated understanding of behavior intervention programs for students with severe behavioral challenges, implementing individualized programs.

Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities to meet deadlines under time constraints.

Proficient oral and written communication skills, able to convey ideas, thoughts, and instructions clearly to staff, patrons, and students.

Effective collaboration at inter‑ and intra‑agency levels.

Proficiency with computer software and systems.

Patience, courtesy, respect, ethical conduct, and tact when dealing with all people.

Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a car.

Coordinate with BBBS/mentor group to line up mentorships for students in need.

Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred in special education or a related mental health field.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in education or related mental health fields.

Ability to collect and use data to make decisions regarding student progress.

Ability to use strategies to intervene with student behavior.

Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
