
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT II) - Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a licensed veterinary technician to join our team at Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists located in
Elmont, NY . In this fast‑paced, collaborative environment, the technician will support equine patient care across multiple services, including surgery, anesthesia, and diagnostic imaging, while working closely with clinicians, veterinary students, and technicians to deliver outstanding care.
Core Responsibilities
Patient Care & Case Flow : Receive and discharge equine patients, coordinate daily patient flow, assist with exams and emergencies, administer medications, perform inpatient monitoring, and provide pre‑ and post‑procedure nursing care.
Surgical & Anesthesia Support : Assist with the preparation and execution of surgical procedures, including patient preparation, anesthesia induction and monitoring, circulating during procedures, recovery, and maintaining sterile technique and surgical equipment.
Diagnostic Imaging : Perform and assist with imaging procedures including radiography, standing MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, CT, and ultrasound and safely prepare and position patients while maintaining radiation safety standards.
Clinical Operations & Support : Maintain clinical equipment and supplies, perform routine laboratory testing, manage case records and inventories, support DVM students and externs, assist with research sample handling, and participate in rotating after‑hours emergency coverage.
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited institution, plus New York State licensure (or eligible to be licensed) with at least one year of experience or equivalent.
Experience working with equine animals.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a variety of stakeholders in the hospital including other students, clients, and clinicians.
Ability to work in an often fast‑paced and demanding environment while paying close attention to details.
Ability to prioritize tasks, remain organized, and maintain accuracy while managing multiple responsibilities in a fast‑paced clinical setting.
Willingness and ability to contribute to the education of others through mentorship and teaching.
Physical ability to perform required tasks, including prolonged standing and kneeling, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds, and, if needed, jogging horses for lameness exams.

Full‑time, three‑year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
Employees are required to receive the pre‑exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire; the department will pay for this.
Work schedule: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with possible adjustments for early mornings, evenings, weekends and university holidays.
Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not provided.
