
Part Time Audio-Visual Technician

Description
St. Benedict Catholic Church is looking for a parttime Audio Technician to monitor the sound and oversee video live‑stream for select masses and other events that take place on campus to ensure intelligibility of the spoken word and balance between choral voices and musical instruments, and a positive viewing experience for our parish shut‑ins. The Audio Technician reports to the Director of Music and Liturgy.
Requirements
Skills:
Applicants should be familiar with the liturgical flow of the mass and know how to use video and sound reinforcement to enhance the worship experience of the community.
Working knowledge of the Allen & Heath SQ-7 mixer.
Understand how EQ settings can be used to produce a natural sound with clarity.
Be able to use the multi‑track recording feature of the Allen & Heath SQ-7.
Be adept in operating video camera switcher and PTZ camera controller.
Understand how to frame a video image.
Demonstrate proper cable care for mics, speakers, etc.
Possess a spirit of collaboration with team members of other liturgical ministries.
Critical thinking and quick troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication, organization, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Able to work with a team of volunteer audio and video technicians.
Willingness to learn new techniques and methods in the given field.
Familiarity with broadcasting on the YouTube channel.
Excellent computer skills.
A strong ear for sound variants.
A technical aptitude.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Arrive at least 30 minutes before a regularly scheduled mass, and 1 hour before other special events or masses to set up equipment.
Test all mics and instruments before a service to make sure they are performing properly. Be present for the duration of the selected masses and events.
Monitor house mix, primarily from the pews.
Manage the YouTube channel files for St. Benedict Catholic Church.
Strike equipment and properly put it away after a mass or event.
Monitor livestream audio mix in conjunction with the main house mix during the 9:00 AM mass.
Provide reasonable care and maintenance on equipment and inform the Director of Music and Liturgy of issues that need additional attention.
Monitoring equipment: monitoring audio signals to detect issues and correct malfunctions.
Communicating: working with volunteer production staff and members of the Music Ministry to determine sound requirements.
Recording: recording sound onto digital audio tape or hard disk recorders.
Troubleshooting: identifying issues with audio signal chains and anticipating and correcting faults.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Any additional tasks requested by the Pastor, Director of Music and Liturgy.
Education
Applicants should be certified by a reputable audio technical trade school or have equivalent work experience.
