Incumbent is responsible for janitorial, routine maintenance and courier duties in the Municipal Garage, including sweeping floors, emptying trash containers, shoveling snow, verifying tenants display parking cards, maintaining building security, and ensuring proper lighting and emergency exit signage.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Sweeps floors, empties trash containers, shovels snow and performs other custodial duties.
Maintains building security.
Picks up and delivers mail, packages and vehicles.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Data Utilization: Requires the ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data and information according to a prescribed scheme or plan.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to follow specific instructions and respond to simple requests from others.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as motor vehicle, sweeper, broom, mop, shovel and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference data and information such as work orders, operating instructions, maps, schedules and records.
Mathematical Aptitude: None.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Involves semi‑routine standardized work, with some latitude for independent judgment regarding choices of action.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
Environmental Factors: Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and traffic hazards.
Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to lift packages weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, push and pull janitorial tools/equipment. Requires the ability to stoop, crouch, bend and twist to perform custodial duties and deliver mail and packages.
Sensory Requirements: Requires the ability to recognize and identify individual characteristics of shapes to clearly distinguish objects and sounds to communicate with others.
Qualifications
One year of experience as a parking garage attendant or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License
License:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing the application and be able to present it upon request. Only qualified applicants who provide proof of a valid driver’s license will be considered for this position.
