Job Description
To create a flexible elementary grade program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed for upper elementary education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and staff.
Responsibilities
Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students using the Board of Education course of study and appropriate learning activities.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each student.
Use a variety of instructional strategies such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents through conferences and other means about students’ progress and interpret the school program.
Identify student needs and cooperate with other staff to assess and help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities.
Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop evaluation methods in conformance with guidelines.
Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
Supervise students during out‑of‑classroom activities.
Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the state testing program.
Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities.
Working Environment
The job requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and fine finger dexterity. Removing up to 20 pounds occasionally is required. The work environment is generally clean and healthy.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent. Preferably a Bachelor’s degree.
NC teaching license in Elementary Education or qualification to hold one.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Maintain licensure and CEUs.
Extensive background check required.
