Overview
The KIMPR (Metals and Minerals Policy and Regulation) unit is part of the Infrastructure Vice Presidency (INF VPU). This position focuses on coordinating complex mining sector engagements across the KIMPR Asia region, providing policy advice and supporting investment facilitation for critical minerals.

Responsibilities

Coordinate WBG support to India’s National Critical Minerals Mission (NCMM), including policy, regulatory, and investment facilitation across all value‑chain segments.

Support coordination of a WBG engagement on a major copper‑gold project in Pakistan’s Tethyan Belt, including policy, regulatory, and institutional technical assistance.

Collaborate with a Senior Mining Specialist in Port Moresby and partners in Washington and Singapore on technical assistance for Papua New Guinea, including policy frameworks and environmental/social governance.

Support preparation for a potential Country Compact in Indonesia by linking policy reform, institutional strengthening, and investment pipelines.

Implement the M&M department’s global strategy in the Asia region by coordinating team activities and framing country compacts.

Provide expert technical advice on policy, fiscal, institutional, and regulatory frameworks for mineral development, processing, governance, negotiations, and mine closures.

Help calibrate country‑level narratives across the Asia portfolio, benchmarking globally.

Collaborate with the Metals and Minerals Solutions and Impact team (KIMSI) to align departmental priorities and deliver integrated results.

Lead innovative approaches to support WBG mining projects, including resilient supply chains for key minerals.

Conduct outreach and presentations to internal stakeholders and external audiences.

Maintain relationships with regional management units at headquarters.

Mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

Minimum of a master’s degree in mining, engineering, public policy, economics, or related discipline.

At least 8 years of relevant mining sector experience.

Experience in mining sector policy, regulation, and institutional reform, preferably with large‑scale investments and transactions.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex, multi‑country programs across WBG institutions.

Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with ability to manage competing priorities across time zones.

Ability to work sensitively in multicultural environments and build effective working relations.

Fluency in English required; knowledge of Hindi, Urdu or Arabic is a plus.

Knowledge of other infrastructure core sectors (power, transportation, utilities) and/or experience in financial advisory is a plus.
