Purpose Statement
The job of LUNCH AIDE-COMMUNITY PRESCHOOL is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for organizing and directing age-appropriate activities for preschool age students; providing support in supervising playground and lunch period activities; assisting in maintaining a clean and safe learning environment for students.
Essential Functions
Assists the site teacher with appropriate activities by working with individual or small groups of children (e.g. games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, playground, washing hands, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
Attends meetings and in-services for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Communicates with school staff for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information required to perform job functions.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. snack time, lunch time, group or individual games, playground activities, classroom, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Provides support in monitoring intervening, and redirecting student behavior for the purpose of improving the quality of student's outcome and encouraging student development.
Provides one-on-one or small group activities (e.g. assisting during lunch, supervising lunch period activities, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives under the direction of a teacher.
Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of providing information and/or direction to other sources.
Marginal Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: apply pertinent policies, regulations and/or laws; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; and stages of child development.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job‑related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; and working flexible hours.

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. There is some opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 30% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
