
Mixing Operator 1 (3rd Shift)

Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting in the production of rubber compound for hose extrusion. Operators must be fully qualified in one area of compound production such as a mixer operator, mill operator, or compounder.
Essential Functions
Mixer Operator
Operate mixer to produce batches of rubber compound to specification as defined by schedule
Load raw materials and monitor equipment, temperatures, and cycle times to assure proper mixes
Use material handling equipment, such as a forklift, to move and prepare materials
Perform cleanout on machinery
Mill Operator
Operate mill and festooner to transfer rubber compound to skids for usage to produce rubber hose
Set mill and cutter to proper thickness and width to produce compound
Prepare slab dip to proper consistency
Perform cleanout on machinery
Compounder
Prepare compound materials needed to supply the mixer
Order raw materials, weight, cut, and mix ingredients into containers for mixer operator use
Use material handling equipment, such as a forklift, to move and prepare materials
Functions Associated with All Functions
Collect samples for testing
Perform quality checks on compound at the associated stage of production
Able to foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers
Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
Department Specific / Non-Essential Functions
Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
Participate on project teams, star point teams and kaizen events when needed.
Attend and participate in all training opportunities required to develop in the role.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
High School diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in manufacturing preferred.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Sound decision making skills
Good math, reading and writing skills
Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual and audio attention
Skills / Competencies:
Basic computer skills.
Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.
Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.
Must be able to operate material handling equipment and hoist, if needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate material handling equipment.
Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs, bend, twist/turn, reach below knee, push/pull, squat/kneel, stand/walk, sit, lift above shoulders regularly; work in high noise and hazardous environments.
Other Skills:
Ability to work well in a team environment.
Assessment:
Employee must successfully complete pre‑employment screening.
Organizational Relationships / Scope
Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader.
Work closely with other departments to resolve issues with the processes & equipment.
Working Conditions
High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.
Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.
Exposure to nuisance fumes and dust.
Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, high visibility clothing).
Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis.
Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.
Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
The employee may be required to follow other job‑related instructions and to perform other job‑related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
