Overview
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Public Relations. The primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate level courses (with emphasis on the program’s public relations concentration), developing new courses on digital PR and advertising, and applying Artificial Intelligence concepts in communication. The position also involves conducting research and grant writing, academic and student advising, mentoring students, participating in student recruitment and curriculum development, engaging in scholarly activities, accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, college, and university as needed. This is a 9-month tenure-track position.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate courses, especially in public relations; develop and teach new courses on digital PR and advertising.
Conduct research and pursue grant opportunities; publish scholarly work.
Advise and mentor students; participate in student recruitment and curriculum development.
Engage in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, college, and university.
Perform other tasks required for tenure and departmental needs.
Organizational Context
The Department is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and offers a Bachelor of Science with concentrations in Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Public Relations. It is accredited by ACEJMC and has over 430 majors. The college includes several departments and serves more than 2,000 students with over 160 full-time faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in mass communication, journalism, media, or a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline.
