Responsibilities

The Utilization Management Coordinator will conduct admission and concurrent reviews in accordance with the hospital‑wide Utilization Management Plan. The coordinator serves as a liaison to third‑ and fourth‑party reviewers and performs focused reviews as directed by the Utilization Management Committee. The coordinator maintains all records and data required by the UM Plan and Committee, appeals denied authorizations of dates of services when medical necessity for continued care is evident, tracks and reports denials in MIDAS, participates in staff and physician education related to medical‑record documentation, and actively participates in the UM Committee by tracking data and trends to improve the quality of the UM Plan systems.

Qualifications

Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Master’s degree in psychology or mental/health/human services field, or equivalent, is required. A minimum of three years of direct clinical experience in a medical‑psychiatric, psychiatric, or mental health setting and at least two years’ experience in utilization management is required. Preferred skills include consumer assessment, motivating families and other resources, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations.
Licensure/Certification:

RN, LCPC, LSW, LCPC, or LCSW are highly preferred. Primary source verification will be required through the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations.
