Exceptional Children's Teacher
Position:
Exceptional Children’s Teacher,
Reports to:
Director of Accountability and Exceptional Children/Principal
Terms of Employment:
10 months
Pay Range:
NC Salary Schedule (commensurate with experience) plus Local Supplement
FLSA Status:
Exempt
Supervises:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants
Purpose:
To plan, instruct, and organize instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Nature of Work:
The teacher is required to follow all Board policies and procedures, and comply with instructions from supervisors. The teacher shall perform in a manner that meets the following standards and elements.

Teachers lead in their classrooms
Take responsibility for all student learning
Communicate vision to students
Use data to organize, plan, and set goals
Use a variety of assessment data throughout the year to evaluate progress
Establish a safe and orderly environment
Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school
Collaborate with school personnel to create a professional learning community
Analyze data
Develop goals and strategies through the school improvement plan
Collaborate with colleagues to mentor and support teachers to improve effectiveness
Teachers lead the teaching profession
Contribute to the establishment of positive working conditions
Participate in decision‑making structures
Promote professional growth
Teachers advocate for schools and students
Advocate for positive change in policies and practices affecting student learning
Participate in the implementation of initiatives to improve education
Teachers demonstrate high ethical standards
Demonstrate ethical principles
Uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct
Teachers know the content they teach
Align instruction with the Common Core
Apply strategies to make the curriculum rigorous and relevantDevelop literacy and math skills appropriate to specialty area
Know subject beyond the content they teach
Direct students’ curiosity into an interest in learning
Promote global awareness and its relevance
Incorporate life skills, leadership, ethics, accountability, adaptability
Incorporate personal productivity, personal responsibility, people skills
Teachers are knowledgeable about special education policies and procedures
Collaborate with regular education teachers
Develop and follow IEPs
Maintain compliant confidential records and paperwork
Collect ongoing assessment and data on individual student goals
Education and Experience
Must hold or qualify to hold a NC Educators License
NC Educator License in Exceptional Children
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
