Description
We are looking for a
Substation Protection & Control Engineer
to join our team in the Chicago, IL office. Candidates will design projects for electric utilities from 12 kV up to 500 kV, applying knowledge of digital logic, AC and DC circuits to substation electrical projects.
Job Responsibilities
Design relay one-line and three-line AC schematics
Develop DC protection schematics and panel layout wiring designs
Create bills of materials based on design criteria
Perform quality control checks on wiring designs
Support full project lifecycle from scoping to final implementation
Provide construction support and apply National Electrical Safety Code
Collaborate with client standards and CAD designers to produce drawings
Ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, and budget
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
Minimum 4+ years of substation protection & control design or field testing/commissioning experience
Experience executing substation protection and control projects
Ability to read and design one-line, three-line, and AC/DC schematic drawings
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Detail oriented, self‑starter, and able to meet deadlines under pressure
High level of computer competency
Willingness to travel to project/client sites and Portland, OR office as needed
U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the United States (required for DOE background check)
Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable
Master’s degree, CAD experience, or field testing/commissioning experience is a plus
