Job Overview

The University of South Dakota, Sanford School of Medicine is seeking a Medical Academic Affairs Coordinator to provide administrative and operational management for the Offices of Medical Student Affairs (MSA) and Medical Education (OME). This position oversees daily operations, supports accreditation and curriculum processes, and supervises staff.

Key Responsibilities
Establish and monitor work processes, workflow coordination, operational documentation and resource allocation to ensure timely and quality delivery of OME and MSA program services, and implement changes to improve program effectiveness, operational consistency, and customer service.
Oversee planning and execution of major academic events including white coat ceremony, graduation, awards, and student activities.
Serve as primary contact for department staff, deans, faculty, and medical students.
Supervise, evaluate, and provide day‑to‑day leadership for OME and MSA employees, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and implementing process improvements as needed.
Coordinate administrative support for accreditation, CQI processes, curriculum governance, and strategic planning initiatives.
Maintain organized, accurate accreditation documentation and structured repositories for policies, handbooks, and course materials.
Direct curriculum modification processes and ensure compliance with University and accreditation requirements.
Develop and deliver onboarding and ongoing training for administrative staff; maintain SOPs and training materials.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and competing priorities.
Ability to train, supervise, and provide day‑to‑day leadership to staff.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Knowledge of medical education.
Experience with office equipment and software including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom, and the ability to quickly learn new technology platforms.

Benefits
This position offers state health insurance and benefits, which includes a retirement plan with 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and 11 paid holidays.
