The Malcom Randall VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Practitioner-Psychiatric Mental Health at our The Lake City Facility. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards - as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
Responsibilities
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program
You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment
Program Approval - award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application
Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) II-lll Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) practices in Mental Health (MH) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
The PMHNP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management - with the emphasis on health promotion - protection - and preservation - disease prevention - risk reduction - behavior modification - and patient education and counseling
Duties include but are not limited to
Uses advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based diagnosis and treatment to Veterans with acute and chronic mental illness including use of psychotropic medications - psychotherapy - and other therapeutic modalities. Provides patient and family education and counseling on medical/MH conditions - health promotion - preventive and protective measures - and prescribed treatments. Demonstrates leadership and engages in collaboration with other MH and specialty care professionals while involving Veterans and their families (as appropriate) in treatment plan development
Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Counsels and treats patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders
Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
Qualifications
Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Psychiatric-Mental Health specialization (PMHNP) practicing in Mental Health
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
Eligibility to participate in the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) per VHA policy (see eligibility requirements and four-month application window)
