Vets on Riverbank - Equine Veterinarian - Ōtaki
Are you passionate about equine veterinary medicine and want to write your own job description?
Vets on Riverbank
has a vacancy for an experienced ambulatory equine and lifestyle veterinary surgeon where you would be based between Ōtaki and Wellington.
You would be largely responsible for the Wellington end of the district with the caseload being 90% equine and 10% lifestyle. This provides an opportunity to work independently, although with a friendly and experienced team of 4 equine/large animal veterinarians and 3 technicians only a phone call or quick drive away in a new purpose-built clinic with a dedicated equine wing close by in Ōtaki. You would be able to build close relationships with your clients, most of whom are highly motivated pleasure horse owners, and self‑direct how your day‑to‑day work would look, but with all the support of a large team behind you. A role shared more across Ōtaki and Wellington would also be considered for the right candidate.
We offer our clients a wide range of services to a very high standard, including:
Lameness workups
Pre‑purchase examinations
Dentistry (with a highly regarded equine dentistry specialist in our team to help)
Wound care
AI and embryo transfer
General equine medicine and surgery
We also have a referral clinic only 1–2 hours north for those more intense cases.
We are motivated to keep our veterinarians keen and are not shy to keep up with the latest in CPD and equipment, including high quality dental equipment, multiple x‑ray units including a DR, ultrasounds, a videoscope, as well as a portable endoscope. We have recently moved into a purpose‑built new clinic to bring all this together in a modern and functional setting.
We can be flexible with working hours and are happy to discuss your preferences from part‑time to full‑time, so let us know what would work best for you. After hours currently is one weeknight, and one in four weekends, with extra financial renumeration and early finish as a bonus for weekends worked.
Alongside a generous salary (depending on experience), we will also provide you with a vehicle, and a mobile phone.
Wellington is a vibrant exciting city, and the surrounding areas offer access to amazing beaches, bush, and wining and dining experiences. All this with a climate to be envious of, so our area can accommodate most hobbies and lifestyles choices.
