Position
Network Analyst I – Network Division

Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Network Analyst I performs professional, technical, and analytical duties in programming, testing, troubleshooting, installation, implementation, documentation, and maintenance of systems, databases, programs, and applications.

Responsibilities

Perform routine system analysis in the design, development, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of information systems, networks, servers, and supporting hardware and software applications.

Provide technical assistance to system users in accordance with applicable information system policies, procedures, and techniques.

Participate in evaluating, planning, implementing, and integrating new systems and current system upgrades.

Prepare and design technical reports using database and report‑writing tools.

Develop time‑management tasks related to project implementation.

Research, gather costing information, obtain vendor quotes, and recommend hardware and software based on current or new City standards.

Develop and produce system documentation, instructional and procedural manuals.

Coordinate and conduct training for client users on assigned systems, applications, or other special projects.

Work with administration to propose enhancements that improve services, policies, and procedures.

Maintain effective and professional relationships with vendors and their technical support personnel.

Provide on‑call after‑hours support 24×7 as assigned.

Provide scheduled after‑hours support for migrations, installations, troubleshooting, and upgrades as assigned.

Qualifications
Option I:

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.

Experience: One year of full‑time work experience in computer science, information systems, voice/data communications, data center operations, database administration, or a related field.

Option II:

Education: Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field.

Experience: Three years of full‑time work experience in computer science, information systems, voice/data communications, data center operations, database administration, or a related field.

Option III:

Education: High school graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).

Experience: Five years of full‑time work experience in computer science, information systems, voice/data communications, data center operations, database administration, or a related field.

Necessary Special Requirement:

Possession of a valid California Class “C” Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Successful completion of an extensive police background check.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

Experience with terminating data cables (Cat 5e and Cat 6) and understanding of both 568A and 568B.

Working knowledge of network CLI tools (Traceroute, Ping, DNS resolution).

Familiarity with network commands/tools (ARP, MAC address lookups, show ip route, route print).

Current possession of a Cisco Network Associate (CNA) certificate, or actively working toward this certification.
