Summary
NBFA's Elementary School Principal must hold a valid 092 administrator's certificate. He or she must be an advocate for NBFA's mission to provide students a meaningful, high‑quality education through experience‑based learning that helps develop essential social, emotional and critical‑thinking skills. This gives all children a foundation to achieve their full potential at every stage of life.

NBFA's elementary principal will be responsible for fostering, nurturing and modeling NBFA as a public charter school district with a shared vision, goals and expectations for teaching and learning. Responsibilities focus primarily on developing and monitoring staff and student performance to realize the school's unique mission within the framework of district goals, the school improvement and strategic plan, and policies. NBFA's School Principal is responsible for all activities within the school [Pre‑K‑6th grade] and for alignment with the district's direction.

NBFA's Elementary School Principal is expected to work closely and supportively with the faculty, but retain responsibility for (1) the educational performance and learning of the children and for their general well‑being while in school, for (2) the competence of the school's teaching staff, and for (3) the relationships and reputation of the school internally and in the community. NBFA's School Principal is expected to

establish and maintain productive working relationships

with NBFA parents as well as district staff, including the Director, Chief Academic Officers, other administrators, and the Board of Directors.

Primary Responsibilities
Vision & Culture for Instructional Excellence

Leads with a collaborative, transparent, and inclusive leadership style that inspires trust, fosters shared ownership, and advances high expectations for teaching and learning.

Guides and implements a school-wide vision of learning through the collaborative creation, communication, and implementation of the School Improvement Plan, ensuring alignment with district priorities and community needs.

Cultivates a culture of continuous improvement by promoting collective responsibility and reflection, with a strong commitment to equity and closing achievement gaps.

Establishes and communicates clear expectations for student learning, staff performance, and school‑wide excellence, reinforcing a culture of high standards and achievement.

Models personal accountability and professionalism, setting the tone for excellence in student growth, staff performance, and results‑driven leadership.

Instructional Systems & Data‑Driven Practice

Leads the consistent implementation and monitoring of high‑quality instructional practices, ensuring alignment with state academic standards.

Collaborates with instructional staff and leaders to build a shared understanding of effective, equitable instruction and support continuous instructional growth across content areas.

Oversees implementation of the school's Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to ensure that interventions, assessment practices, and instructional supports are implemented systemically and equitably.

Provides leadership and coordination of school‑based teams and committees, including those focused on instruction, professional development, assessment, and student supports [MTSS, SPED/504, etc.], to build and sustain systemic instructional improvement.

Talent Development and Professional Learning Leadership

Leads the supervision and evaluation of certified and non‑certified staff.

Assists in the hiring process in alignment with district policy, ensuring all personnel decisions foster a high‑performing, student‑centered learning environment.

Collaborates with instructional leaders to design and implement professional learning experiences aligned with school improvement goals and instructional priorities, while also modeling continuous learning and deepening staff understanding of academic standards, assessments, and best practices.

Leads the implementation of initiatives introduced by internal and external stakeholders and approved by the district to drive instructional excellence and equity.

School Culture, Climate, and Community Leadership

Creates and sustains a school culture grounded in NBFA's mission and vision, centered on high expectations, equity, and inclusive learning for all students.

Collaborates with the Culture and Climate Specialist and other leaders to implement and monitor the School Climate Improvement Plan.

Leads clear and culturally responsive communication efforts, building trusting relationships with families, community partners, and stakeholders to support the school's mission and ensure equitable learning opportunities.

Maintains visibility and accessibility as a school leader, actively engaging with parents and families to address concerns and foster ongoing collaboration.

Models and upholds the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility for School Administrators, ensuring a professional, ethical culture among all staff.

Other Related Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

Serves as an integral member of a district‑wide instructional team and, while primarily responsible for a school building and its programs/operations, contributes to the overall development and progress of the district as a professional learning organization.

Certification, Knowledge and Skills
Be committed to the district's vision and core values

Demonstrate ability to focus on and support student outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to learning about the standards for all contents (e.g., CCSS, NGSS, etc.)

Demonstrate ability to coach and support staff members in all domains of effective teaching

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of social‑emotional learning strategies to support the development of the whole‑child

Promote a positive school culture with both staff and students

Maintain an O92 certification from the State of Connecticut

Have 5‑7 years' teaching and/or leadership experience in urban public schools

Demonstrate strong analytical and technological skills

Candidates fluent in oral and written Spanish, French Creole or Portuguese encouraged to apply
