Summary of Duties
Child & Family Service new program Safe Haven for Survivors and Pets are looking for a Domestic Violence Specialist.
The Domestic Violence Specialist II provides confidential, trauma‑informed support to survivors of domestic violence and their pets. In this role, you deliver direct services including safety planning, crisis intervention, case management, support group facilitation, housing advocacy, and accurate data entry. You partner closely with survivors to develop individualized service plans that address both immediate safety concerns and long‑term stability while connecting survivors and their pets to appropriate resources and supports. This position approaches family healing holistically, recognizing the vital role pets play in survivors’ lives and well‑being.
Staff are expected to apply trauma‑informed principles and uphold our HOPE values, ensuring compassionate, survivor‑centered advocacy.
Education and Training Requirements
Four‑Year College Degree from an accredited institution – general major; requiring basic knowledge or training in a specialized field such as social work, professional accounting, finance, business administration, or marketing.
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology or any relevant behavioral health field.
Experience
Two to four years of related experience.
Specific experience in domestic violence or related field.
Basic knowledge or experience working with animals.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics and trauma‑informed care.
Ability to engage, empower, and communicate effectively, respectfully, and empathetically with survivors from diverse backgrounds.
Skills in conflict mediation and resolution.
Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Understanding the intersection between domestic violence and pet welfare.
Collaboration with community agencies, landlords, and service providers.
Excellent documentation and data‑entry skills.
Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to rural or community settings as needed.
Other Position Requirements
Valid Hawaii driver’s license and a clear driver’s abstract.
Willingness to travel in personal vehicle throughout the island.
Subject to a criminal background investigation; continued employment contingent on a record clear of convictions.
Successful completion of CPR, CPI and/or van driving training, if required.
Successful completion of CPI classes or other behavioral management certification, if required.
Successful completion of first aid classes.
