We are seeking a Communications Manager to lead the development and execution of clear, consistent, and compelling communications that elevate Greater IC’s mission, initiatives, and impact. This role plays a central part in shaping how we tell our story through strategic messaging, both written and visual, across multiple platforms.
The Communications Manager will oversee content development, digital platforms, media relations, and brand management, ensuring all communications align with organizational priorities and resonate with key audiences.
Responsibilities
Communications Strategy & Planning
Create and maintain an annual communications plan with clear goals, audiences, and metrics.
Align messaging across economic development, advocacy, workforce, and community initiatives, including all geographic areas served.
Ensure consistency in voice, tone, visual style, and brand across all platforms.
Content Development & Storytelling
Write and edit blog posts, newsletters, reports, press releases, and marketing materials.
Translate complex economic and policy topics into clear, accessible messaging.
Highlight regional successes, partnerships, and community impact through storytelling.
Support presentations, event scripts, and talking points for staff and leadership.
Design graphics and select photography to complement and elevate written communication.
Digital Communications & Platforms
Develop and monitor weekly email newsletters.
Oversee website content, updates, and performance.
Manage social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) with a focus on engagement and growth.
Monitor analytics to inform strategy and improve performance.
Media & Public Relations
Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories.
Coordinate interviews, op-eds, and media opportunities.
Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to elevate key messages.
Brand Management
Maintain brand standards across all communications and materials.
Collaborate with staff and partners to ensure alignment with brand guidelines.
Support design and production of marketing collateral (digital and print).
Manage external vendors for design, printing, and related services as needed.
Organizational Collaboration
Partner with the Event Manager to promote Greater IC events and programs to drive attendance and sponsorship.
Support investor communications and engagement efforts.
Provide communications guidance and support across the organization.
Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented work environment.
Data Tracking & Evaluation
Track key performance indicators and analyze engagement data.
Prepare regular reports to inform leadership and guide strategy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
3–5+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Ability to translate complex topics into clear, concise messaging.
Experience managing digital platforms, including websites, social media, and email marketing tools.
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Commitment to inclusive, community-focused communications.
Proficiency with tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, CRM systems, or similar design and email marketing platforms.
Experience working with business, government, or community stakeholders preferred.
Experience with or interest in photography and videography preferred.
Commitment to inclusive communications that reflect and engage the community.
This is an exempt, full-time, benefit‑eligible position. Work is performed in‑person at the Greater Iowa City, Inc. office in downtown Iowa City.
Work hours are primarily Monday–Friday during standard business hours, with occasional early morning, evening, or weekend hours as needed to support events or to respond to urgent communications needs in a timely manner. A valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.
Compensation: $60,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience.
