Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a 9-month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Urban Horticulture.
The successful candidate will contribute to high‑quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, develop a productive and externally funded research program that addresses stakeholders' horticultural needs, engage in service to the department, college, and university, and support community and industry partnerships.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Horticulture or closely related discipline, earned at the time of appointment.
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching in an agriculture‑focused program.
Demonstrated research expertise and potential to establish a productive program.
Preferred Experience and Skills
One or more years of post‑doctoral research experience.
Record of independent research and strong publication track.
Research background in horticulture areas such as controlled environment agriculture, urban food systems, hydroponics, aeroponics, and vertical farming.
Prior university teaching experience and teaching effectiveness.
Experience working with stakeholders, horticultural producers, extension personnel, and/or industry partners.
Strong potential in securing external research funding.
Experience with greenhouse, farm, high‑tunnel, or controlled‑environment research facilities.
Commitment to mentoring diverse student populations and inclusive teaching practices.
Strong communication and collaboration skills for land‑grant outreach.
Employment Terms
FLSA: Exempt
Appointment Type: Permanent – Full-time
FTE: 40 hours/week (9 months)
