Junior Aerodynamicist
Formula One Licensing B.V, California, MO, United States
ALPINE RACING LIMITED
Job Description
We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Junior Aerodynamicist to join our Aerodynamics department. This role contributes to the aerodynamic development of the race car within a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
You will work closely with experienced aerodynamicists and a wider group of technical specialists, gaining exposure to CFD, wind tunnel and track‑side activities while developing strong foundations in aerodynamic theory and application.
The Role
Working within one of the aerodynamic development teams, you will support both conceptual and iterative development activities, applying aerodynamic fundamentals to real performance challenges. This role offers valuable hands‑on exposure to wind tunnel testing, giving the opportunity to build practical experience with industry‑standard techniques and technologies. Some shift work in the wind tunnel may be required, including occasional night and weekend shifts, providing insight into live testing operations.
Key aspects of the role include:
Creating high‑quality CAD surface geometry using CATIA 3DX, ensuring legality, compliance with departmental standards and practicality for full‑scale application.
Setting up, running and analysing CFD simulations, producing clear and structured reports that explain key aerodynamic effects and flow structures.
Preparing and supporting wind tunnel programmes, including job specifications, test follow‑up and post‑test analysis.
Collaborating closely with colleagues across the aero department—such as model designers, surfacers, CFD methodology engineers, wind tunnel technicians and trackside aerodynamicists—to ensure effective delivery and correlation.
Proactively developing your own skills and contributing to improvements in aerodynamic methodology and development processes.
The Person
We are seeking a high‑potential individual with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset. You will be educated to at least Bachelor’s level in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline with significant aerodynamic content, and have a solid understanding of fluid dynamics and aerodynamic fundamentals.
You will also need:
Experience or familiarity with CAD (preferably CATIA 3DX) and CFD (preferably OpenFOAM).
A structured, analytical approach to problem solving, with strong attention to detail.
Good communication and team‑working skills, and the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
A proactive and diligent attitude, with the ability to work to deadlines in a time‑critical environment.
Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, with an appreciation of the wider context of race‑car development.
Training and ongoing support will be provided to ensure proficiency in the tools and techniques required for CAD, CFD, wind tunnel testing and data analysis.
Alpine F1 strives to be diverse and inclusive, a place where we can all be ourselves. We welcome people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and experiences. We are committed to making a consistent, top down effort to be role models on what diversity, inclusion and belonging means in society.
