Battery Testing Intern
Stress Engineering Services Inc., Waller, TX, United States
Overview
We’re looking for a curious, hands-on Battery Testing Intern who’s ready to step into the lab and help test, challenge, and validate next-generation battery technologies. In this role, you won’t just observe, you’ll be actively involved in real testing that impacts product safety, performance, and reliability.
At Stress Engineering Services, we are a passionate, multidisciplinary team of expert problem solvers dedicated to tackling the toughest engineering challenges. Since 1972, we have delivered innovative, forward-thinking solutions for clients who demand deep technical expertise and proven performance across engineering design and analysis, thermal and fluid sciences, instrumentation, and testing. Our work pushes boundaries, elevates how businesses operate, and delivers measurable impact across industries worldwide. It’s no surprise that SES has often been described as the “Disneyland for Engineers”, a place where challenging ideas become real-world engineering achievements.
What truly sets us apart is our people and our purpose. At SES, we combine advanced technology, creative thinking, and rigorous engineering fundamentals within a culture built on trust, excellence, and integrity. We are committed to developing and delivering emerging concepts with the highest standards of service—empowering our engineers to collaborate, grow, and make a meaningful difference. If you’re driven by complex problems, energized by hands-on innovation, and inspired by work that’s as exciting as it is impactful, you’ll find your place here.
What You’ll Do
This internship puts you inside the test lab, working alongside engineers to evaluate how batteries respond to real-world and worst-case conditions.
Assist with battery testing, including:
Thermal stress (external heating, high/low temperature exposure)
Electrical stress (overcharge, fast charge/discharge, short circuit)
Mechanical stress (vibration, shock, penetration, crush)
Life-cycle and durability testing
Set up and monitor test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation
Execute test plans while ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols
Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to identify performance trends and failure modes
Document results clearly through test reports, logs, and presentations
Support root-cause investigations when batteries behave unexpectedly
Collaborate with engineers to improve test methods and procedures
Required Qualifications
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
Basic understanding of electrical systems, battery fundamentals, or electrochemistry
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Comfortable working in a laboratory or test environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis
Preferred Qualifications
Coursework or hands-on experience related to batteries, energy storage, or electrical/mechanical testing
Familiarity with lab equipment such as power supplies, electronic loads, or data loggers
Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python) is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
What You’ll Gain
Hands-on experience with battery testing and validation processes
Exposure to industry-standard testing methods and safety protocols
Mentorship from experienced engineers and technical professionals
Opportunity to contribute to real projects impacting product performance and reliability
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to work in a laboratory setting
