Job Description
BHE GT&S has an exciting career opportunity for an LNG Engineer II/LNG Sr Engineer/LNG Sr Engineer II at our Cove Point facility located in Lusby, MD.
Responsibilities
The LNG Engineer (Electrical) provides plant-wide technical authority and day-to-day support for the reliable operation of Cove Point’s medium and low voltage power generation and distribution systems. This role focuses on preventing electrical equipment failures, optimizing protective relaying and load shedding schemes, maintaining power system models, and driving continuous improvement in electrical reliability and safety.
Perform power system modeling, load flow, short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies using ETAP.
Maintain the site-wide arc-flash program and ensure NFPA 70E compliance.
Develop, test, and maintain protective relay settings and coordination for 13.8 kV and 4.16 kV systems.
Support the Fast Load Shedding and Power Management Systems for plant turbines and black start generators.
Lead or support Root Cause Failure Analyses and bad‑actor elimination for electrical equipment.
Provide electrical discipline input to Management of Change (MOC), HAZOP revalidation studies, capital projects, turnarounds, and outages.
Review and maintain electrical drawings (single‑line diagrams, schematics, area classification, etc.).
Support troubleshooting and emergency response for critical electrical events.
Mentor less‑experienced engineers, I&E technicians, and operations personnel.
Participate in on‑call rotation.
Qualifications
LNG Engineer II
1‑3 Years of Professional Engineering Experience
Knowledge and application of engineering theories and principles, concepts, and fundamentals.
Requires developmental experience in a professional engineering position.
Competency in applying engineering principles, fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures requiring some evaluation, originality, and/or ingenuity to achieve project objectives.
Understands and can apply knowledge of configuration management.
Ability to perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs.
Planning, organizational, and project management skills.
LNG Sr Engineer
5+ Years of Professional Engineering Experience (PE License Preferred)
Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
Strong leadership skills, with proven ability to serve as team project lead.
Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills.
LNG Sr Engineer II
8 Years of Professional Engineering Experience (PE License required)
Extensive knowledge of high‑ and medium‑voltage power systems in heavy industrial or process facilities.
Project management skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Proven ability to lead complex technical investigations and present solutions to leadership.
All Levels
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to interpret codes, regulations (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 70E), and industry practices.
Effective planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams.
Commitment to safety and reliability culture.
Preferred
Experience in LNG, refining, petrochemical, or large power generation facilities.
Hands‑on experience with SEL, GE Multilin, or Beckwith relays.
Experience with ETAP.
Additional Requirements
Must have a valid TWIC card or proof of TWIC application prior to employment.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET‑accredited program required. Master’s degree is preferred.
