What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the R&D Engineer 2 or R&D Engineer 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. As a Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead for the W93 Systems Development group, you will lead a team that designs, develops, and delivers a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system for the JTA5 LANL DAQ. You will coordinate with other PRTs and the W93 Systems Engineering Director, manage requirements and interfaces, execute testing, report status, and ensure a producible, Mark‑Quality design.
R&D Engineer 2 salary range:
$104,100 – $172,200 . R&D Engineer 3 salary range:
$125,200 – $211,300 .
What You Need
R&D Engineer 2
Engineering Knowledge: experience researching, designing, testing, analyzing, verifying, and validating engineering solutions.
Engineering Design: experience in the design basis qualification process, designing, planning, and executing tests or analyses for a system, subsystem, or component with data needs from multiple stakeholders.
Project Management: use of project‑management principles and tools to deliver products on schedule while balancing multiple priorities.
R&D Engineer 3
Leadership: ability to influence and lead an R&D team of diverse scientists, engineers, technicians, and operations personnel; mentor early‑career staff.
Collaboration: record of developing and leading cross‑organizational teams to solve complex problems.
Engineering Design: deep experience in developing and implementing technical requirements, specifications, plans, reports, and procedures for product realization.
Networking and Communication: experience interacting and integrating with external and internal interfaces, building trust, gaining consensus, resolving conflicts, and maintaining relationships with program‑level leaders and engineering staff.
Program Management: excellent skills overseeing and completing highly complex/high‑profile projects on schedule and within budget.
Education & Experience
Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 4 years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
Education/Experience at higher level: Master’s Degree in Engineering and 6 years of related experience, or equivalent combination; a Ph.D. may be preferred.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with US Navy nuclear weapon system design and engineering.
Experience with nuclear weapon design, development, qualification, certification, assembly/production, or surveillance.
Electrical or Systems Engineering degree.
Strong knowledge of high‑reliability electronic payload design and production, including schematic design, firmware development, ECAD layout, PC board fabrication, PCB assembly, packaging, and verification testing.
Active Q Clearance, equivalent DoD clearance, or ability to obtain an Active Q Clearance.
