26-bed, high-acuity progressive care unit caring for complex patients who require continuous monitoring and frequent clinical intervention. Nurses practice in a fast-paced environment that demands strong assessment skills, critical thinking, and effective interdisciplinary collaboration.

Serves as a team leader, clinical resource person, role model, coach and facilitator for staff and department operations. Has the responsibility and authority to lead their work group; resolve routine issues, and create a positive, productive and fiscally responsible work unit. Stays aware of organization developments and initiatives that they can adopt for their work group. Refers complex or potentially significant issues to manager/director, including issues regarding compensation, work hours, working conditions, hiring, and formal corrective action. Initiates and facilitates effective open two-way communication and resolution of work site operational issues that support service area goals and objectives. In addition to the lead responsibilities, provides professional care to patients of all ages within an assigned area.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes for patients as appropriate to service area.
Utilize leadership principles in mobilizing the patient care team to achieve positive patient outcomes. Follow up on matters to ensure they are successfully resolved.
Assist manager/directors in assuring staff competence and contribute to staff performance development. Identify areas of improvement. Provide input into the manager's developmental plan for each team member, work with the team member on areas of development and follow up to ensure the employee is on track with their plan. Participate in employee performance evaluations by regular coaching of the employee and giving them feedback on their performance, maintaining performance related information throughout the year, preparing their assessment of the employee's performance for their annual review, and regularly giving feedback to their manager/director about their employees' performance.
Assist with and/or prepare work schedules for department or work group. Ensure adequate coverage, equitable treatment of staff, and control work hours. Handle clinical issues for the unit contacting the manager/director as necessary and/or apprising them of the situation. Only refer unusual or potentially broad situations to manager/director.
Collaborate with management regarding fiscal management. Assume responsibility for appropriate resource allocation, and maintain staffing levels in accordance with financial targets, provide input to budget process and resource needs and expense control.
Assist with other department responsibilities such as implementing and managing activities resulting from patient satisfaction surveys, performance improvement, and other quality initiatives.
Conduct individual and/or team meetings with the work group ensuring effective two-way communications, keep group informed, listen to needs and issues, resolve items brought to attention, and follow up with team members and management on issues. Promote a positive work environment, hold employees accountable for their conduct and interpersonal skills, and encourage staff development of communications.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, licensure and accrediting standards where applicable (The Joint Commission, CLIA, COLA, OSHA, AAAHC, etc.).
What We Require
Education:
Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program required.
Experience:
One year in clinical discipline required with demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise.
Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:
Registered Nurse in the state of Virginia.
OBGYN: EFM NCC certification required.
Life Support:
AHA BLS-HCP required. ACLS, PALS, NRP may be required based on specific work unit.
Other Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrates leadership qualities at current level of practice and good interpersonal and communication skills. Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
